Mary Butman Sargent faithfully kept a journal for close to a decade. My father, my aunt and myself have been involved in transcribing her "Line a Day" journal so that her grandchildren to great-great-great grandchildren can have a sense of what life was like for the Sargent family in Alton, Maine in the early 1900's.
Mary Butman Sargent is pictured above with her children and her husband, Joshua Sargent. Much of her journal reports the activities of her sons in their business, and her daughters in their work. It is clear from her journal that Mary's family were very hard workers.
