What Are Spool Bars?

Bill Brown, a great-grandson of Joshua Dodge Sargent and Mary Foster Butman Sargent, emailed a question. His mother is Margaret Sargent Brown, a granddaughter of Joshua and Mary Sargent. Margaret Sargent Brown is pictured above in the back row on the far left, and possibly pictured below in this photo from the Stillwater School in 1922.

JGS notes -
This picture is marked 1922

and Stillwater Grade IV and V.
Is Margaret Sargent Brown
seated four back in the right row?

Bill asked,
"One question I have from looking at the Sargent Bros. Sawmill, circa 1911 photo. It looks like all of the output of the mill was in the form of aproximately 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x various lengths. The caption refers to them as spool bars. My question is what are spool bars?"
The next entry after this one answers his question. There is a lot to know about spool bars!
