A Foggy Day Ahead in Searsport
Herbert E. Sargent recalled that he and his Uncle Bob often brought Mary F. Butman Sargent to her Searsport summer cottage. When they got to the cusp of the hill on the old road where the ocean was visible, Mary would say, "There's the ocean - smell that salt air!" The photo above is the view from the newer section of Route 1 just before Searsport.
I remember a similar tradition when driving with my grandfather Herb as we passed farmland fields. He would say with a bit of glee in his voice, "Smell that agriculture!"
